There are many things going on in the Theatre and Chorus world right now.

The DTC is currently working on our production of The Yellow Boat, a play written by David Saar which is based on the life of his son, Benjamin.

  • T-shirt money ($15) is due by February 1
  • Medical forms for comps need to be filled out online by the end of next week. We will be using rehearsal time for this.
  • The first deposit for the NYC trip was due last week and has been sent to Suburban Tours. Thank you, Mrs. Turcotte, for your help. Those students who are going will be taking part in a workshop led by a Broadway musical director and cast members from the musical Waitress. We will have time to shop and eat in Times Square after the workshop and will watch the musical before heading home. The trip is on May 7.
  • Prelims are at Joseph Case High School on March 4. I have a director's meeting tomorrow and will have more information regarding tickets at that time.
  • Please continue to sell Dominos cards to help the DTC raise funds for our production.

The Chorus is continuing our work on concert repertoire and also researching the various cultures within our classroom. We are hoping to choose concert repertoire based on our research!

  • Six Flags, NJ trip deposits ($150) and contracts are due next Wednesday, January 25
  • Our trip is on May 12-13 and we will be adjudicated. It is important to have as many students there as possible so that we can be judged fairly!
  • Please check with your son/daughter to see if they have any money in their fundraising account. I sent out an update to the students this week.
  • Please return any missing Dominos cards. Although, we have plenty if you would like to sell more and earn money for the trip.
  • Our spring concert is Thursday, May 11.
  • The next parent meeting is on February 7 at 6:30. I will let you know if any changes are made to this time and/or day.

Happy New Year!

There is again a lot going on with both the theatre and the chorus groups this half of the year.

The DTC will be holding auditions for The Yellow Boat tomorrow, Jan.4, after school. This is our competition piece. Prelims will be Saturday, March 4 and I'm excited to get started.

There are two trips currently in the works. The DTC will be taking a day trip to NYC to attend a Broadway workshop and watch the musical Waitress. The cost of this trip is approximately $200. The money and the completed contract must be in by Thursday, January 12. The Chorus is scheduled to take an overnight trip to compete at Six Flags, NJ. The cost of this trip is approximately $350. The first deposit, and the signed contract, is due by Wednesday, February 1. This deposit is necessary in order to go on the trip.

The new chorus concert dresses were a success and looked absolutely stunning on stage. I hope you were able to attend the concert.
The first half of the year went by beautifully and I am extremely proud of both the theatre and chorus groups.

This next half of the year is always busy. We have competitions, trips, concerts, and other performances in our future. The chorus class is currently researching our different cultures so that we can choose music for the spring concert. Midterms are coming up in the next few weeks. As always, thank you for your continued support!

Week of 10/17-10/21

This week I am inspired by the hard work and dedication of the students involved in both chorus and theatre. The picture below shows a few of the dancers from the upcoming musical, Side Show, learning and practicing the choreography.

At the theatre parent meeting this past Monday we discussed ideas for upcoming fundraisers. Some of these ideas included:

1. Dominos Card - Theatre students are currently selling these for $10. Chorus students will be selling them as soon as the rest are delivered.

2. Savers - This fundraiser was such a success that we will be holding another drop off on Nov 14. You may send items in as soon as you would like and we will need help bringing items to Savers on the day of. Acceptable items are as follows:

3. Calendar - The DTC is still in need of gift cards for our calendar fundraiser. We have been calling businesses for donations, but your help is greatly appreciated. Last year we ran this fundraiser in a very short amount of time and were able to make $600. Full participation this year should hopefully result in a higher amount.

4. Sam Wolfe Concert - The DTC was given concession duty for this concert on Friday, Oct. 28. We will need food and water donations for concessions. There is a sign up sheet on the DTC board outside of room 33.

5. Tag Day - We have a double tag day set up on Oct. 29 at both Walmart and Stop and Shop (Mariano Bishop Blvd.). Sign ups are on the DTC board. We still need a lot of student and parent help. We have many empty spots left.

6. Talent Show - Durfee's Got Talent is Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the door. We will need food and water donations for concessions.

If any parents would like to help with constructing the set please contact gbigelow@fallriverschools.org

The musical is Dec. 9, 10, 11 and the chorus concert is Dec. 15. Rehearsal will be after school on Dec. 14!
Boys should wear a white button down dress shirt, black dress pants, black dress shoes, and a black suit jacket if they have one. We do have some jackets here at school and this will be the first year that we have concert dresses for the girls to wear. They will only need black dress shoes.

Have a good weekend! Thank you for all your help and dedication.

There have been a lot of great things happening in the chorus and theatre groups this week. Theatre has been rehearsing diligently for the upcoming musical, Side Show. Our performance will be Dec. 9,10, and 11 in the B.M.C. Durfee Nagle Auditorium. We also held auditioning for Durfee's Got Talent which goes up on Friday, Nov.4.

Chorus has been reviewing basic notation and rehearsing for the concert on Dec. 15. We have some gorgeous voices and a great balance of vocal parts this year.

Upcoming fundraisers:

Monday, Oct. 17 Papa Gino's Night from 4-9 p.m. (Elsbree St.) - DTC
**Turn in the flyer below and 20% of your order will go the the theatre company.

Saturday, Oct. 29 DTC Tag Day at Walmart - DTC
** Students should sign up for a time slot. Come support us!

Dominos Card
**Students in both theatre and chorus will be selling Dominos buy one get one free cards. Cards are $10 and 9 of the dollars will go into the student account (chorus) or to the theatre company (DTC).

Advertisements - DTC
**Students in the theatre company are required to go into the surrounding community and ask businesses to place advertisements in our programs. This is the largest fundraiser for the theatre company and helps to fund our shows.

We would also like to set up a chorus tag day to help the students fundraise for the trip to Universal Studios this year.

There will be a meeting with DTC parents Monday, Oct. 17 at 5:15 in the auditorium. We will be discussing fundraising ideas, advertisements, the DTC calendar and what is needed for the upcoming production of Side Show.

We are off to a good start! Please feel free to email me with any questions. lterry@fallriverschools.org

DTC Summer Fun!

We have a car wash scheduled on June 26th.
This is a great way for us to start making money for the upcoming school year. I need a team to make signs and tickets so that we can start to pre-sell. By selling ahead of time, we still make money if the person decides not to come on the day of the car wash.
Keep watching because we will also have days throughout the summer at Rocky's and Shaws. At this point, we can use all the help that we can get!

More details to come!

On a side note, I am so proud of everything that both the Chorus and the DTC have accomplished this 2015-2016 school year. Look at all of the awards you have won! It shows that hard work and dedication CAN pay off in the long run. I am looking forward to a wonderful, creative, exciting, musical, dramatic, tag day filled 2016-2017.
